“A Fantastic Read For All Ages And Genders.”

Astronomer, Nathaniel “Boots” Brogan discovers a comet heading on a direct path to Earth. Its size indicates an ELE (Extinction Level Event). Recording the entry, he then reports the discovery to his supervisor who notifies NRO (National Reconnaissance Office - CIA). Boots mentions the discovery to a fella astronomer, then leaves. He’s expected in Texas for a new assignment, where Julian Winters is waiting at the airport for him. When he doesn’t show up, he is told that Boots was killed in a terrible accident. He makes a few inquiries, but something strange seems to be going on. The government has reclassified the comet as non-dangerous. Then Boots’ friend, Glen Franklin, dies in a violent accident, and Julian begins to suspect something is wrong.

The government kidnaps the three men, Boots, Glen Franklin, and Julian Winters, and confines them at a mysterious location, telling the world and their families that the men are dead. Meanwhile keeping the comet a secret while the government prepares options to change the course of the world-destroyer.

The first half of the book concerns the discovery and plans for the destruction of the comet. Unfortunately, the plans backfire. The rockets sitting on the ramps explode before they can be launched, and we can no longer change the course of the comet. Another rocket is prepared, one that will send a small group to Mars to start a colony, saving the human race from extinction. The rocket consists of four crewmembers and the three kidnapped astronomers. Luckily the comet impacts the moon instead of Earth, and basically the new rocket is no longer needed. However, satellite imagery shows anomalies on the dark side of the moon where the comet impacted, and it’s decided to send the crew to the moon to investigate.

Wow! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of the stories by this author, but this is his best work yet. Every child or adult that ever looked through a telescope, or wanted to be an astronomer or astronaut will love this book. The author is a scientist, and knows what he is writing. He weaves his tale in a believable scenario, and we see the rioting and destruction caused by panic when the world thinks the comet is coming. Then we go with the scientists to the moon to discover even greater wonders. It is DESTINATION MOON, ROCKETSHIP XM, DEEP IMPACT, and even a part of WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE and WAR OF THE WORLDS, and more. Readers will not want to miss this wonderful read. Highly recommended.

Newly weds Matt and Lindy Cross are celebrating their honeymoon on the California coast. Lying on the Monterey Bay beach they are attracted to a fireball falling into the waters off the shore. Strangely, the fireball doesn’t act like a meteor, as it slows before crashing into the bay. Matt, an ex-Navy diver, takes GPS readings, and a few days later makes a dive in his company’s mini-sub to retrieve the object.

Bringing it back to their home, they discover a teardrop shaped satellite, but that’s not the strangest part. When they open it, they discover it’s from the future, 2285, and there are now 54 states. A letter explains the situation clearly. A scientist in the future had discovered the wormhole effect, putting it to practical use, and aliens from another galaxy uses it to attack our planet. Earth is near destruction, and the president feels the only way out of the situation is for someone in the past to assassinate a relative of the responsible scientist to insure the wormhole effect is never discovered.

This was not only a fast paced thrill ride it’s an interesting take on time travel. Instead of sending their own assassin back in time, they use satellite technology to request us to kill a relative in the direct line. This is the Grandfather Paradox. By killing someone in the past, you destroy a whole family line up to and including the person you really want stopped. What would our society decide to do in such a case? The author’s solution is simply brilliant. Highly recommended.

Simon Fogner, PhD, Nobel Laureate, and nuclear physicist, has a score to settle with the world. He builds two thermonuclear bombs he names Adam & Eve, and maps out the best location to cause the maximum destruction. He has planned for his two bombs to form the symbol of pi when the nuclear clouds form and touch.

Exposed to the deadly material he is already dying of radiation sickness. His skin is pealing off, and he’s bleeding out, yet he manages to stay alive long enough to place his terrible weapons then leaves a coded poem for authorities; he uses a form of anagram to write his message in the poem, and plans to leave it with the news media. However, when that fails, he drops the envelope through the open window of a California Highway Patrol vehicle parked at a Starbucks. The letters WMD written on the envelope warns CHP Officer Mica Brisco that this could be important. His captain is away for the week, so he drops it off with the Sheriff’s Office. Within 12 hours, his phone rings and he’s ordered to appear at SID for questioning. Arriving, Brisco finds a task force in place, including FBI, Homeland Security, the Sheriff’s Office, Cryptanalysis, Forensic Computer Analysis, Forensic Psychiatrist, and a doctor of nuclear physics. The taskforce – or A-Team - will grow before the case is over, to include the Navy and other civilian specialists. The taskforce is working on the belief there is one bomb, Adam, not realizing there is a second, Eve, until the last hours of pi – 3.14159.

Wow, this is what makes a good movie. With zero hour ticking away, the taskforce must discover the location of the bombs, and either disable them, or make them harmless some other way. Each bomb is at least 20 times the power of the bombs dropped on Japan, and will literally vaporize L.A. in an instant. I was especially taken with the villain – a super villain in every sense of the word. His flesh literally falling off, he should have been dead before he could put his bombs together; yet he not only builds them, places them in the ocean, and runs around L.A. most of the book dressed like the Grim Reaper. The writing is topnotch, the characters are three-dimensional, and the plot is fresh and imaginative. Thriller lovers will not want to miss this one, and I can highly recommend it to readers who just like a good yarn.
