My Blog

Retirement. Publishers, thank you for the many years of reading pleasure you gave me, but all good things must come to an end. Due to failing eyesight I am forced to retire. I can no longer review your books, and any that you send will be donated to the local library, unread. Do not send any more. I can only read for a couple hours every day, and this does not allow me to finish a book in reasonable time. I will be devoting time to my own books from now on, and reading on a personal level. Books that interest me. I prefer paperbacks and hardbacks, not eBooks. My eyesight has been failing the last few years, and I cannot handle hundreds of review books any more. My books are still available for review. Anyone interested in reviewing any of them, they are found in the Link to Tom’s Books On Amazon. Contact me for pdf copies at fadingshadows40@gmail.com

HILI

HILI is a science fiction about abduction and contact with intelligent extraterrestrial life. The theme is not new for fans of the genre, but the book also talks about the limits of sanity and what a person is able to do to preserve her life and the existence of her race.
With many surprises and twists throughout the narrative, HILI begins with the traditional method of abduction. Madison DeMarco, a former top model, disappears from her mountain cabin after spotting a strange light in the sky. Madison wakes up in a metallic room and with her is a man who, although attractive, has an almost inhuman appearance.
After the initial shock, Madison learns why she is in that spaceship, and where she is going. Besides been taken from her planet, she later discovers that things are not exactly as they seem and she will have to face a great danger in the ship to survive.

Madison  DeMarco’s husband has just asked her for divorce, and she is angry and heading for her cabin in the hills. Madison is a famous model, and drives a Ferrari GT4, and she’s burning up the road. Arriving at the cabin she no sooner settles in than a bright light appears overhead and she blacks out. When she awakens, Madison discovers a space alien has abducted her and they are headed for his world where she will become the queen of the world, and mate of the alien.

The alien is the last of his kind. For the last five thousand years or so, he has been cloning his body until he is now the perfect specimen of man – large, muscular, and extremely handsome. He is known as Etana – or more exactly, Lord Etana. He claims to be the only person on the ship, and calls her by the pet name of Hili, but Madison senses another creature in the shadows, one that is small and thin, and knows that Lord Etana has been lying to her. But what could be at the bottom of those lies?

This was a wonderful and unique tale. Madison talks to herself, which is quite humorous at times. Plus Etana also abducted her Ferrari and added AI to it, so the car can now talk to her. She does discover the thing in the shadows is a female robot named Hili, which causes more problems between her and Lord Etana, since the robot has been Etana’s companion for thousands of years. Etana is a cyborg, half man, half machine, and she may not be the only Earth woman he has abducted. Things spiral out of control for both Madison and Etana, and drastic measure must be taken.

The writing was extremely odd, as if English is not the first language of the author. Words are missing from sentences. The use of “on” and “in” is often at odds with what it should be. And “being” usually comes in as “been”. I would say it was poorly edited, but a lot of more advanced words are okay. Either English is a second language for the author, or she used an interpreter who is not proficient in English. Whatever the case, the story is still good, and I highly recommend it for SF readers.

Crop Circles In The Field

Crop Circles In The Field (Non-fiction)

Smashwords Edition

136 Pages
Rating 4-Stars

Besides Crop Circles, the author covers UFO sightings and abductions, aliens and other paranormal subjects. Including New Age subjects as channeling aliens and other so-called masters from who knows where. I had no interest in the paranormal, especially channeling other beings, but the author reports on UFO sightings, and other investigators like John E. Mack and Stanton Friedman, and the Phoenix Lights in 1997. At the end of the book is a long detailed chapter on The United States And Space, which researchers and the civilian populace should all read. It quite well details the length to which our government goes to classify – and keep secret -  everything beyond the people’s availability to access. We are a government run by the people, yet it’s us, the people, who are kept in the dark about what our government does. There are a lot of good parts to this book, and well worth reading.

The Experiencers

Assassin Michael Valiant deals death without question on the orders of the Agency. He knows it’s all in the name of duty and the fight against terror, particularly at a time when the earth is as close as it’s ever been to self-destructing.
But Michael questions his agency's motives when he's ordered to silence a group of UFO enthusiasts who look less like terrorists than they do housewives and nerds. His attempts to uncover the truth arouse the suspicions of his partner and boss with tragic consequences. Michael finds himself running for his life and dragging his intended target along with him.
Can he save them both, or will the Agency and the aliens find them first?
A new age science fiction thriller that delves into existing UFO and doomsday weaponry conspiracy theories, The Experiencers keeps readers riveted with non-stop action while the characters struggle to control destinies that may have been determined lifetimes ago.

“Kept Me Turning The Pages”

Michael Valiant works as an assassin for a secret government agency called Extraterrestrial Alliance Project (ETAP), with his partner Gerry Muniz. The agency is monitoring and attacking UFO groups that are too vocal about their sightings. Michael is becoming suspicious about the reason people are being eliminated. Thinking to keep him straight the agency decides to kill Michael’s wife to bring him back in line, making her death look like an accident, but when he discovers the truth he turns from them. Going after Carolyn Fairchild, an abductee, Michael kills his partner and takes Carolyn away from the agency’s clutches. But the aliens have her tagged, and unless they can find a way to remove the tracking device, they can pick her up anytime anyplace. Hearing of a rebel alien group, they head for the camp, hoping to find help, but before they arrive the agency’s military has attacked and destroyed the camp. And now the aliens have abducted Carolyn again.

This was a well written, action-packed novel more resembling a men’s action novel, but with the addition of an alien and paranormal background. We don’t actually see aliens until the end of the story, and thankfully some of the rebel aliens are still alive. I don’t believe in New Age, and a lot of paranormal stuff, but this fiction novel certainly kept my interest. Carolyn has future vision, as well as remote viewing ability, and can see and speak with the dead. So there is a lot of excitement in this yarn, and I was unable to put the book down. Highly recommended.

“Highly Entertaining”

Unbeknownst to Sheldon Buckley when he’s flown to the offshore oilrig floating on the Gulf Coast to check out what is believed to be a system failure of his program, an alien space ship really caused the failure. What’s more, the aliens have been capturing humans on ships, along with their electronics for many decades. This time they are after the people and electronics on the oilrig and Sheldon is part of the package.

Aliens have a problem, they only have four fingers, and no thumb, and humans have five fingers and a thumb, something necessary for the small electronics needed on their massive ships. There are other reasons, too, such as human manpower, and -- food. Men with intelligence are kept to control the lesser humans, who become drones to do manual work. Sheldon is promptly put in charge of more intelligent work, but he’s determined to escape if there is ever a means open to him. He meets a fella traveler named Captain Allen Hale, taken in 1984, and they become friends. But it takes five years for Sheldon and Hale to find their chance to escape on another trip to Earth.

In the meantime, two FBI Agents, Randal Miller and Oscar Belknap have been secretly investigating the oilrig case, which was hushed up by their superiors. An assassin working for the government is killing off witnesses, and even the FBI agents are being watched as targets. When the aliens strike again, this time at an Alaskan pipeline, some tough men with pipes and wrenches oppose them. An EPA Agent named Helen Hunt with a camera catches the attack on film. This time the news media has film of the alien attack and the government can’t cover it up. However, Hale and Sheldon are not able to escape from the ship as planned. The aliens no longer want them and they are released, and the government puts them in a Safe House until a congressman gets to them. Now plans are made to use Sheldon and Hale in a trap to capture or kill the aliens, but it involves them going back on board the alien ship with the Navy SEALS. Can it be done?

This was a fun story, actually my first involving an alien abduction and time on board an alien craft with strange beings from another world. The author admits to a UFO sighting, but was never abducted to my knowledge, yet he spins an exciting yarn with an intelligent spin. Highly recommended.

Trespassers

When four alien visitors arrive on Earth and disappear into the cornfields of Indiana, it is Stewart Faulkner’s job to find them. Who they are, where they’re headed, and what’s important enough to make them jump from a moving spaceship are all questions that Stewart must uncover. And he will have to do it all while 1) training a new team member named Mindy—who is developing a crush on him; 2) flying under the radar of his boss to make sure he’s not removed from the case; and 3) staying one step ahead of a government agent named Karl Bruner, who is determined to expose the presence of aliens on Earth. As Stewart unravels the layers of this mystery, he discovers that these aliens are connected to his own past in ways he never would have guessed. “Trespassers” should appeal to literature & fiction fans, as well as fans of action & adventure. It includes both men's adventure and women’s adventure. The book is appropriate for teen & young adult readers, as well as new adult & college, especially those interested in humor, dark humor, and satire. Fantasy fans will also enjoy this read, which dabbles a bit in the realm of speculative science & scientists, even dipping slightly into urban legends, for a well rounded entertainment experience.

“A Satirical Look At Alien Visitation & Abduction.”

Aliens are human, and have been coming to Earth for a long time. Although the universe may be inhabited by humans they are as different as birds are on Earth. For instance a peacock and sparrow are both birds, but look how different they are to one another. The government has two highly funded agencies assigned to the problem of aliens: The Alien Research Agency, run by Karl Brunner, who is trying to prove that aliens exist. The other agency is the Limestone Deposit Survey Group, their A-team, or in the case rated Fire for the highest, consist of Stewart Faulkner, Mindy Kemp, Gregory Webster, and New Guy (military rifleman). They know aliens exist. In fact aliens are supposed to check in with them when they visit earth to be immunized against our biological bugs. Just like we receive immunizations when visiting other countries. But some aliens sneak in, abduct a human, and make their own vaccines. That’s where Stewart and his team come in.

Now an alien craft has been detected about to abduct an earthling, but Stewart has set himself up as the victim, and takes over the ship. But while he’s moving the spaceship to a secret location four aliens he had overlooked drop from the craft to the surface, and become illegal trespassers. These include Dexim, Lynting, Tobi, and Jin; they are on a secret mission, possibly to find a fifth alien.

This was a fun read, though you won’t find much action or tension. Things are sort of mellow as the aliens play cat and mouse with government teams chasing them. I thought the aliens were a bit too human, not only in looks but feelings, and would have preferred seeing a little more mystery and conflict between everyone. This is definitely a different kind of science fiction tale than what one expects with the subject matter. Readers who liked The Hitchhicker’s Guide To The Galaxy should find this one similar in context. Highly recommended.
