“Wow”

The author gave me a copy of the book for an honest review. The world and politics come to close when an alien is discovered. The CIA and NSA are keeping him secured in a secret facility in the middle of nowhere. CIA agent, Owen Jennings contacts his old college pal, Chief of Staff, Gabriel Ferro with a life or death message, and Gabriel rushes off to meet his friend, and is spirited away by a NSA agent to the hidden location where they are keeping the alien. From this point the story shifts into high gear, as powerful men want the alien killed, and anyone with it. Gabriel and Dr. Blake make a run across country, hoping to reach the safety of the White House with the alien in tow.

The alien, Legna, is here to right a wrong. Humans were their failed experiment, and they want to set them back on the path originally intended. To find peace, harmony, and balance. But humans have been on their own so long, they don’t want some alien race knocking on their door and telling them what to do. The president dies and Legna makes Gabriel governor of the world against his will, and forces him to start programs to move humans in the right direction.

Wow! This belongs on film. However, it wouldn’t work as a movie. This would have to be a six to eight hour mini-series. As I read this, I couldn’t help being reminded of the humorous novel, Martians Go Home, about unwanted aliens arriving unexpectedly and disrupting our ever-day affairs. But this novel, though humorous at times, is also very serious. I found a lot of the story falling into New Age beliefs, the creations becoming the creators, one world government, etc. At one point Legna is asked, “Do you think you are god?” To which he replies, “Maybe I am.” There are twists after twists in this interesting novel, but it ends well, as humans begin looking to change. To say any more would give too much away, so I will leave it there. Highly recommended.

“Could Not Finish The Book”

I loved the premise and the cover of this book, and I always take a chance on Free SF books, but sadly this one didn’t prove to be a good read. As much of the book I read was 90% tell, and 10% show, which turned me off from the very beginning, then add to that it read like a 1950s True Confession magazine, not a good science fiction novel. Basically, Netty escapes from her abusive husband and returns to her farmhouse where she hopes to salvage her life and rebuild the old house she grew up in. On her trips into the forest, she loses a special coin down a crevice, and digs down for it. Inside is a huge cave and she finds a strange animal that looks dead. Picking it up she cuddles it, and suddenly it is alive, and they soon bond. At first she believes it’s a forest animal resembling a squirrel, but it isn’t. It has horns and its head rotates completely around on its shoulders. Taking it home, after awhile she begins to change, becoming healthier and her complexion improves, plus the creature she now calls Baby communicates through telepathy. The alien doesn’t remember what its mission was, but whatever Netty needs, it provides, giving life to dead seed, trees, and other dead animals. A shame the story line wasn’t more interesting, as the concept was good. I wasn’t able to finish the first story, but I hope it improved with the second and third stories. I can’t recommend this book in good faith, but some might find it enjoyable.

“I Was Unable To Put The Book Down”

Six men mysteriously awaken as prisoners aboard an alien space ship. Locked in a cell together are Tom Valentine, Professor Mark Bennett, Air Force General James F. Hargreaves, James Jones, John Chapman, and Daniel Lambert. Their captors are seven-foot tall Grays with large black eyes and slender bodies. The prisoners remember very little about the past or how they were captured, but hear voices elsewhere on the ship so know they are not alone. They do wonder why they are together. Why them, specifically? General Hargreaves appears to know more than the rest about what is going on, and Professor Bennett remembers that he was at Stanford University and was a theoretical physicist, and from what the general told him he had worked on a time machine. The general also admits he had one of the aliens captive at Area 51, under interrogation, but the creature had lied to him.

Spoiler alert. There is no way I can review this book without giving away some spoilers. So if you don’t wish to hear them, stop reading this review now. First, the author drops a strong hint about the plot simply with the characters’ names: John, James (Jones), Daniel, James (the general). Mark, and Tom (Thomas Valentine). We learn more as each of the six tell their (final) stories. Tom tells us about the invasion. The aliens interrupt television news broadcasts to explain why they are here: (Paraphrased) “We are from Heaven, and we are here for Judgment Day. Everyone will be judged for their sins, and punished accordingly.” Of course, we are all sinners, so we’re all going to be judged – and punished. As each tells their story, we learn a little bit more about the invasion and the aliens, but it is in the professor’s story that the closest truth is revealed. A horrible murder two thousand years ago is now bringing retribution down on us, and it could wipe out the human race. The aliens tell them the writers of the Bible didn’t exactly lie to us, but they didn’t explain everything, either.

Okay, this was an interesting story, and I couldn’t put it down. I had to find out what was happening on the next page, so I read this book in one setting. It had my full attention. I picked up on the names at the very beginning, and thought I had the whole story figured out, but I didn’t. Close, but not quite. The names were mere namesakes of the Biblical writers, but maybe they “represented” the actual writers to the aliens. Or the author was just playing with the reader, maybe. The story has no ending, just the death of these six men. At the story’s conclusion, our planet’s population has dropped from seven billion to 150 million, and the reader is left hanging. Will there be a remnant saved, or will the human race cease to exist? Unique storytelling, and highly recommended.

An alien spacecraft explodes in space, and then enters into our atmosphere, and crashes into the sea near a small village. An alien Pet is ejected as it’s falling, and when the cage accidentally opened as it hits rocks, the shape shifter hides within the rocks. It’s not long before a woman and her pet cat walk along the beach looking for items the night’s storm may have washed on shore. The cat, TC, sniffs out the alien pet, and the creature quickly assumes its shape before the woman finds it. Thinking it’s a poor stray cat washed up from the sea, the woman takes it home with her. Now, the alien cat attempts to fit in, learning how to act like a cat. Meanwhile the crew of the disabled spaceship have been rescued, and now they’re looking for their pet. And the military has discovered the alien cage it arrived in, and know it’s not of this world. Fearing a possible virus or something equally deadly, they quarantine the village and start a door-to-door search, taking all the animals for testing.

This was a short, but fun little tale, and though aimed at juvenile readers, all ages will like it. A cat person’s delight. Highly recommended for any animal lover.
