“Engrossing!”

Henri Poincare, a few years out of university and working as an engineer, meets a young German woman where he has built a platform above a sunken ship. The two are smitten with each other, but Henri discovers she is one of the heirs to the Kraus Steel fortune. As their relationship becomes close, he also discovers there may be hidden secrets behind her deceased father’s business. A Nazi during Germany’s troubled past, he had built tanks and weapons for Hitler using slave labor in which thousands had perished, and millions murdered. Was someone in the company trying to protect those secrets, even to the point of more murder?

This is a love story, a coming-of-age story, a murder mystery, and a discovery tale of horror, torture, and death at the camps during the height of Hitler’s power. Poincare’s adopted uncle dies, and he begins searching the past to learn about a man he barely knew, only to discover the connection to Kraus Steel, and the family of the woman he loves.

The story was a prequel to “All Cry Chaos”, and takes place prior to Poincare becoming an agent of Interpol. Well written, with believable characters keep this mystery entertaining, and the reader feels the horror as it comes to light before the young engineer. The author did his research, and though the tale is fiction, the acts were not. It’s a story steeped in history and brutality: a story of how people treated others, and the consequences of their deeds.
