My Blog

Retirement. Publishers, thank you for the many years of reading pleasure you gave me, but all good things must come to an end. Due to failing eyesight I am forced to retire. I can no longer review your books, and any that you send will be donated to the local library, unread. Do not send any more. I can only read for a couple hours every day, and this does not allow me to finish a book in reasonable time. I will be devoting time to my own books from now on, and reading on a personal level. Books that interest me. I prefer paperbacks and hardbacks, not eBooks. My eyesight has been failing the last few years, and I cannot handle hundreds of review books any more. My books are still available for review. Anyone interested in reviewing any of them, they are found in the Link to Tom’s Books On Amazon. Contact me for pdf copies at fadingshadows40@gmail.com

On the far side of the universe is an asteroid occupied by a fascinating group of odd individuals of different alien races. It is an outpost of sorts, at the edge of civilization. The novel is a round robin of different authors taking part in telling a portion of the story as a whole; a story of every day life on the Rock. Like Babylon 5, we are pulled into the tale and don’t want to leave. Stuck on a world where they must live and work underground, most have only one great desire – to leave to Rock.

The story has no true beginning or ending, as it’s intended as a continuing series featuring numerous episodes on the Rock. I was fascinated by the characters and writing, and was surprised the series did not continue past this one book. The characters are three-dimensional; some that we may love and some we may hate, but the authors are at their story-telling best, and the Rock is one marvelous place to keep the readers entertained. The book is a steal at this low price. Highly recommended for readers of SF adventure novels, and fans of shows like Babylon 5.

Web of Truth

Tension is mounting in the rift. With the situation dire, Wil is tasked to train a group of twenty young men to serve as his officers--collectively, the Primus Elites. He has five years to raise them to full Agents, and he'll need every minute. Training alongside them, Wil still needs to master simultaneous observation. But, the closer he gets to achieving the feat, the more likely the Aesir will come to test him--to see if he's worthy of the Cadicle title bestowed on him at conception. If he can survive their test, he'll finally uncover the truth the Priesthood has gone to such great lengths to hide.
Web of Truth is the fourth installment in the Cadicle series. This character-driven novel with action, romance, and intrigue reveals the true nature of the war as Wil learns the secrets behind the Bakzen's origins.

Rating 5-Stars

Wil and Seara are preparing for their engagement and upcoming marriage while he trains selected men in the Primus Elite and Saera tests for Agent Class. In the meantime General Tek plans a takeover of the Bakzen military. TSS meanwhile needs better accommodations to build their new fleet of war ships. To add to their problems, the mysterious Aesir have their eyes on Wil, and may wish to test the Cadicle themselves; the final chapter deals with that meeting and Wil’s test.

Book #4 is slow due to the planned marriage and preparations for heightened training. Although there are small combat engagements and other incidents to keep the story moving, any heavy action is lacking in this one, except in small doses. However, this is the story that reveals so much the previous novels have left out, and Wil finally learns to truth about the Bakzen and the war, and his ultimate role in in the war with the Bakzen. It ties the whole backstory together, yet leaves room for more as the war progresses to a fulfillment. Readers will not want to miss Cadicle Book #4, or the next in line. Highly recommended.

Crimson Clown - Killer

“Crimson Clown – Killer” by Tom Johnson. When The Crimson Clown discovers the planned heist of a charity ball, he wasn’t expecting a mob rubout at the same time. Now he may be caught in a web of murder! This is another fascinating character created by Johnston McCulley that appeared in DETECTIVE FICTION Magazine between mid and late 1920s, then popped up again in POPULAR DETECTIVE in 1944. He deserved a new story. “Crimson Clown – Killer” is now available  on Amazon Kindle for $1.99, at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CVVQM0W
